So many people with so many different thoughts on how best to keep your laptop batteries life to be the longest with the most power. Many of these ideas are remnants from older types of batteries like Nickel Cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydrate.
Well here's the scoop...Lithium Ion batteries...the kind all new laptops use these days have no memory effect. Now having said that there is a couple things you need to keep in mind...first of all when you get your new battery you need to fully charge it then fully discharge it (By using the laptop) and you need to do this cycle twice.
Now you are good to go and can use it and charge it over and over and it won't matter if the battery is not fully discharged before you recharge it.
A common misconception is that if you use it less it will last longer, well this is not the case, in fact it is the complete opposite...the more you use it the more the battery likes it. Now every two or three months you should do the complete discharge/charge thing twice again...Most people do not do this and their batteries start to lose charge after a year or so. Keep your battery in the laptop and no the freezer is not the place to store your battery, leave it in the laptop, use it, enjoy it and follow these simple instructions and your battery will last for a very long time.
